Solar Panel on Rooftop

Inverters

Inverters are a vital component of a solar system that come in different types and can impact the efficiency of the whole system

Solar inverters are essential for converting the direct current (DC) generated by your solar panels into the alternating current (AC) used in homes and businesses. Matching the right inverter to the installation can depend on a number of factors such as size, shading, number of separate roofs or angles of panel mounting and permitted export level of unused power to the electricity grid.

As with panels we are looking for efficiency, technology, value, bankability and warranties in our product selection. Importantly there are also a number of different types of inverter with slightly different attributes for different applications, below are examples of some of these.

String inverters

String inverters can have a number of separate strings but are most suited to fairly simple arrays with little or no shading, where they can be used they represent great efficiency and value as well as minimising components and potential points of failure.

SolarEdge Inverters & Optimisers

SolarEdge Power Optimisers and Inverters are a great way to safely get the most out of shaded or complicated arrays. Optimisers track and modulate the performance of each module in order to overcome any differences resulting from shading, orientation or module mismatch. The SolarEdge optimiser system will reduce the impact of these differences to maximise the power of the system and ensure a quicker return on the investment.

SolarEdge also includes module-level monitoring via an online portal which is compatible with smartphone apps. The SolarEdge optimisers carry a 25 year warranty and feature a unique SafeDCTM mechanism which shuts down DC voltage and current of every module as soon as the system is disconnected from the AC supply for greater safety during maintenance or in the event of a fire.

Fox Hybrid and AC Inverters

Engineered by some of the world’s leading inverter and battery experts, FoxESS products offer customers the most advanced product features currently available, coupled with exceptional performance and reliability at an affordable cost. FoxESS provides versatile energy solutions with its range of both hybrid and AC-coupled inverters, catering to diverse power needs. Whether integrating with existing solar setups or building new sustainable systems, their inverters ensure efficient energy conversion and enhanced grid management.

Enphase Microinverters

Enphase Microinverters are high-power, Smart Grid-ready and designed for the latest generation of high-output PV modules. Named after their highly intelligent microchip, they customise their chips to maximise the size, weight, reliability, and performance of our products. Enphase Energy Systems are based on a distributed architecture. This modular microinverter design means you can easily expand a system as home energy needs grow. No single point of failure. If a system with a string inverter fails, solar production will stop completely. With one microinverter per module, solar production keeps working even if a microinverter fails. Whether it’s leaves, dirt, snow, or cloudy days—obstructions happen. With microinverters, each solar panel operates independently while string inverter systems limit their production to the weakest module.
